Match Report: Sunday 7th Feb 2010

LEAGUE MATCH - Chipstead U14s – v – Weybridge Vandals
Final Score: 31-0
Following our epic victory over Sutton & Epsom (27-0), we came to Weybridge with high expectations.

During a friendly against Weybridge Vandals, earlier on in the season, we had convincingly won the game. However during the first ten minutes, it was apparent that they had ‘upped’ their game and we struggled to stay in their half. Having had to re-arranged the forwards line up, it was clear to see, that the team were missing JT, but five minutes later, Chipstead persistently moving the ball forward were rewarded with the first try in the 15th minute when Dom in full flow went for the try line. This was duly converted by Tom.

Five minutes later, Luke D forced his way through the Weybridge backs to score the second try.

The team’s handling during the first half was a bit lacklustre, but they compensated by being defensively compact.

The second half started with us giving away more penalties than was necessary. Although the handling improved, Chipstead appeared to be jittery when it came to keeping possession of the ball.

Archie and Will Barnes seemed to run and tackle very effectively during the half. Ten minutes into the second half, Lartey sidestepped a couple of Weybridge players, passed the ball to Dom who passed it to Henry, who charged through and scored a spectacular try.

Confidence was now apparent in the way Chipstead carried themselves and the team played some fantastic rugby for a six minute spell.

There was comic moment in the game when Luke T ran forward with the ball, two of the Weybridge players attempted to lift him off his feet. Standing 6’ 3” tall, he was not moved a single inch off the ground as he had his feet firmly planted in the ground. He then cleverly laid the ball off to Will.

Two further tries, one more by Dom and another from Luke D wrapped up the game and another successful game.

On a very muddy pitch in the dying seconds of the game, Chipstead had a scare when Weybridge’s Number 8 ran through a whole line of Chipstead players. But for precise and excellent action on the part of Ryan, who brought him down literally on the try line, we would have conceded a try and marred our perfect score.

We came, We saw, We conquered

Head Coach’s Comments:
We came into this game with four primary objectives
1. To reach the location without getting lost en-route
2. Field all players in attendance
3. Win !!!
4. Achieving the requisite bonus points.
It is with pleasure and great pride that I say we achieved all the objectives.

Well done to everyone on and off the pitch – Pete B & Coaches
