Waitrose in Coulsdon have advise that Chipstead RFC have been chosen as one of their `good causes` for this month.
For those not familiar with this scheme, each time you shop you pick up a green token from the till point and pop it into one of three `ballot boxes` each one representing a local charity, club or other cause. At the end of the month the box with the most tokens wins. And the winner gets a cheque from Waitrose.
So lets all make an effort to get as many green tokens in our slot
We have the entire month of September which is great news!
Some dates for your diaries
- Sunday 17th October : Chipstead Festival.
This will be week 7 of the new season and we`ll be up against some useful opposition. Ideally we`d like to field two teams to give all players a chance to compete at our home festival. We now play 9-a-side so allowing for subs we ideally need 12 players per squad. So please could you inform Sarah or myself if you know now that you will not be available.

RFU CONTINUUM
Mini Rugby (Under 9 And Under 10)
Players and match officials must endeavour to ensure the iRB Laws of the Game, modified by the following playing rules, are observed when playing Under 9`s rugby:

Reminder about mouthguards
At Under 9 we start contact - although Rugby remains essentially an evasion game. You must bring a mouthguard to training and competitions. Come the festivals if you do not have a mouthguard, you may not be allowed to play. Player safety is our primary concern - it should be yours too.

So what is U9s Rugby about?
Chipstead Under 9s graduated from tag rugby at the end of last season with season ending silverware as winners of the Camber Sands Rugby Festival 2010.
The under 9 game sees the introduction of contact, limited scrums and line-outs. However as Rugby is still an evasion game much of the game based training will be about using the space in front to create opportunities for yourself and your team-mates.
At Chipstead we play with the emphasis, on fun and learning the basics of the game, as well as encouraging the importance of competitiveness, teamwork and sportsmanship - we play open, heads-up rugby that encourages players to think on the pitch and play for their teammates.
Training at the Meads takes place on Sunday during the season from 10:00 to 12.00. On occasion we visit other clubs (or they visit us) and we also take part in a number of Festivals throughout the year. There are details at the foot of this page of fixtures so you can see if we are at home or away on any particular Sunday.
The RFU has guidelines on age restrictions when it comes to Festivals and competitive matches; If your child was age 8 on midnight 31 August 2010 then they are officially an U9 (if they turn 9 on the 1st September, they are still an U9).
We try to ensure that there is a training session at the Meads on Festival days for the players who aren`t chosen to play in Festivals, or cannot because of age restrictions.
There is an annual membership of £120 (which also covers player insurance); what we tend to encourage is that the boys and girls (and parents) come for a couple of weeks to see if they like the game, the set up etc and then if they do we ask them to sign up; the money can be paid by monthly Standing Order.
Please remember layers, hat and gloves (the Meads can be very windy) and a non-fizzy drink. Longer term if you stay with us your child will need a Chipstead shirt, rugby boots and a basic mouth guard (accidents can happen!). As this is a winter sport, with the inevitable rain, the ground can be muddy so a lightweight waterproof would also be advisable. There is a shop at the Clubhouse for kit.
Hopefully the above helps, but please do not hesitate to get in touch (see contact details at the top) if you`d like to find out more.
Regards
Peter Hutton
